Prevent Heart Disease and Hypertension with a Lipid Profile Test
Cholesterol is a fat in the blood that attaches to proteins called lipoproteins. The body uses cholesterol to help build cells and produce hormones while too much cholesterol in the blood can accumulate inside the arteries, forming plaque and if too much you risk a heart attack or stroke. The disease can be detected early by examining your lipid profile, which consists of LDL HDL, total cholesterol and triglyceride tests.
How to prepare for a test?
- Fast before the test that means do not eat and drink anything 10 hours before blood is taken although mineral water is OK.
- If you are taking medication that is fine with water in the morning before the examination.
